The Oaklands Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on our Core Values. They reflect what we believe is important for our community and our school cohort. We believe that educating our children in this way will ensure that they have success academically, emotionally and socially – and that they are equipped with the knowledge, skills and moral purpose to support the world to be a better place.

Our curriculum is not just the subject content that we plan, but also the attitudes, beliefs and morals that inspire our school. We believe that all pupils should show Respect and Pride for themselves, others and our world and have a lifelong Love of Learning. Our teaching and behaviour policies keep these core values at their heart and they inform everything that we do. Please see the Equality Statement and Action Plan for how our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010.

Our teaching curriculum is themed around wonderful books as establishing a love of reading is the key skill for lifelong learning. It is then augmented with assemblies, performances, extra-curricular clubs, trips and visits and our wraparound care. The content and delivery of these experiences are all informed by these values.

Phonics Scheme

We use Read Write Inc to help us deliver exciting phonics sessions with children from Reception upwards.  The children work in pairs and small groups to learn new sounds and to learn to read and write words and sentences.
