Nursery Noticeboard - Spring Term 2019
WORLD BOOK DAY
Next week the Nursery will be celebrating World Book Day. The children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character on Friday 8th March.
Parents are also welcome to join us as at 8.50am or 12.20pm on Friday 8th March to share a story and encourage a love of reading. Please come and join us!
Week Beginning 25/02/19
This week we are starting our new topic on People Who Help Us. We will be learning about vets, what they do, what they wear, where they work and what equipment they use. We will be pretending to be vets and helping animals that are poorly or hurt.
We will be learning about number and introducing the new sound 'i' this week.
If you are available to come and speak to the children about your job and how you help people please come and speak to a member of staff.
Week Beginning 11/02/19
This week are learning the story of the 'Gingerbread Man.' We will making our own Gingerbread man who runs away! We will be going on a hunt around the school to find the Gingerbread man and follow the clues he leaves us! The children will then be encouraged to create posters and write about what happened to the Gingerbread man. We will also be investigating and making different ways the Gingerbread man could get across the river and experimenting to find out what would happen if he tried to swim.
We will be continuing to look at shape and discussing their properties. Ask your child to identify shapes around the house and ask them why they know it is a square, circle, triangle or rectangle.
Week Beginning 04/02/19
This week we are learning the story of 'Biscuit Bear.' We will be following a recipe and measuring out ingredients to make biscuits and decorating them. We are also going to be practicing circus skills linked to our story and creating our very own Oaklands Circus.
We are also going to be learning about shapes, thinking about their properties and identifying their similarities and differences.
Week Beginning 28/01/19
This week we are learning the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. We will be learning all about positional language. The children will be going on bear, number and colour hunts around the Nursery and using positional language to describe where they were found.
Storytelling Week - This week is storytelling week. If you would like to come in and tell a story to the children please sign up on the sheet in Nursery or email the school to inform us when you can come in.
Toilet rolls - If you have any toilet or kitchen roll tube please bring them into Nursery so the children can make binoculars for their bear hunts!
Week Beginning 14/01/19
This week we are learning the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We are encouraging the children to retell the story (and use different voices!) Please encourage them to tell you the story at home too.
We are learning about size, thinking about the language of size (big, enormous, huge, small, little etc..) and ordering objects.
We have also enjoyed following instructions to make porridge, discussing how it changes as it cooks and enjoyed eating it too.
Week Beginning 8/01/19
This week we are starting our new topic on Bears. We will be learning all about real bears this week. It would be great if you could research facts about bears at home for your child to share in school.
We are going to be learning about size and ordering and would be grateful for different sized bottles, boxes and other recycling items.
We are also in the process of creating a bakery in our role play area. If you have any baking trays, cupcake cases or cupcake trays that you can donate please bring them into the Nursery.
